LAG B’OMER FAMILY FESTIVAL

The JRCC hosted a vibrant, all-day Lag B’Omer Family Festival on Thursday, May 15, in two locations — the “South” event at Earl Bales Park and the “North” event at Pioneer Park. The carnival-like celebration draws thousands of people from across the GTA and beyond for an afternoon filled with fun and unity. This year’s festival featured a game truck, carnival fair with prizes, inflatables, live festive music, an amazing children’s show, rides, a children’s rally and parade, a bonfire, and plenty of delicious food. By far, the most meaningful aspect of the event was the sight of so many Jewish people from diverse backgrounds coming together to celebrate — a powerful display of unity that truly embodies the spirit of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, in whose honor Lag B’Omer is celebrated. A heartfelt thank you to all the participating organizations, staff, and volunteers who helped make this year’s event so special.

FOCUS ON OUR FUTURE

The community came together for Focus on Our Future — an evening of empowerment aimed at helping families navigate the challenges of today’s digital world. The event was opened by Rabbi Levi Jacobson, Director of the JRCC West Thornhill branch, who welcomed attendees and set the tone for a meaningful and timely discussion. Focus on Our Future is designed to raise awareness among parents about the impact of technology on children and to explore practical ways to ensure safer, healthier digital experiences. The evening offered insights and guidance from a Torah perspective, helping families align modern challenges with timeless Jewish values. In an era where technology shapes nearly every aspect of our lives — often outpacing our ability to manage it — events like this are essential in fostering informed, resilient communities, families and children.

ELECTRICAL UPGRADE BECOMES DAYCARE FIELD TRIP

While the JRCC Daycare underwent an important electrical upgrade, the team stayed committed to maintaining its high standards — including minimizing disruption to the children’s schedule. Rather than taking time off, the daycare transformed the situation into an opportunity for fun and exploration. Children enjoyed a field trips to several exciting local playgrounds, turning what could have been a break in routine into a series of joyful, active days outdoors. As they say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade

BAR MITZVAH CLUB FINALE

After a full year of dedication and camaraderie, the Bar Mitzvah Club recently held a celebration to honor the boys’ hard work as they prepared for this important milestone in their lives. The event took place over a BBQ, providing a warm and joyful setting for the young men to be recognized for their achievements throughout the year. Each participant had the opportunity to share something meaningful, reflecting on their personal growth and the significance of this rite of passage. Parents, siblings, and grandparents were invited and enthusiastically joined the celebration, making it a true family affair.

JLI "COLORFUL PROFILES" COURSE

JRCC East Thornhill recently concluded its four-week "Colorful Profiles" course, offering participants a deep dive into twelve compelling stories from Jewish history. Led by Rabbi Mendel Zaltzman, the course highlighted the lives of extraordinary individuals—converts, captives, royal advisors, philosophers, and philanthropists— whose sacrifices, adventures, and achievements have left an indelible mark on Jewish heritage. The course provided attendees with a vivid exploration of Jewish history's rich tapestry. Each session delved into different facets of these remarkable lives, shedding light on their contributions and the enduring lessons they impart. In a world where understanding diverse backgrounds and histories is more crucial than ever, "Colorful Profiles" served as a timely reminder of the resilience and impact of Jewish individuals throughout the ages.
