About The Project
Many people are surprised when they see a huge RV decorated with colourful Jewish pictures roaming around the streets. We love to experience onlooker’s surprise when they come in and are shocked to see a Mini-library and synagogue.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe launched the Mitzvah Tank in 1974 following the Yom Kippur war. People were wondering what the Rebbe meant as this was a very new and peculiar initiative! The Rebbe foresaw the incredible potential in creating a large vehicle that would be used as a portable “educational and outreach centre” and “mini-synagogue” to reach out to non-observant and alienated Jews.
Today Mitzvah tanks are commonplace on the streets of New York City as well as all over the globe where Chabad is active.
During the course of the year we are able to touch the lives of many Jews, spanning the spectrum of age, background and commitment. However, what they all have in common is the joy of being reconnected to their Jewish roots and learning more about it.
