Graphic Designer
North York
Where is your family from, and how long have you live in Ontario?
My parents are from Tashkent in Uzbekistan, but I was born in Israel. We have lived in Ontario for the past 16 years; we emigrated to Canada from Israel when I was a very little girl. Immediately upon arrival, we settled in North York, where we have lived until today.
Why did you choose to live in North York?
We like this area because there are a lot of wonderful people with whom we have a lot in common, including Russian language and culture. In addition, it is a beautiful and lively district, and it’s very easy to get to the city center from here.
What do you do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?
I love to draw. Actually, that's why I chose to become a graphic designer. I love taking pictures, making interesting compositions, I love to read, and I studied singing for many years. I am an outgoing and cheerful person, and enjoy spending time with my friends. I also have a small dog, and I enjoy taking her for walks.
If you were given the opportunity to meet anyone, alive or dead, who would you choose, and why?
My family settled in two countries: Some live in Israel, others in North America. I'd love to gather the whole family together, including both grandfathers, whom I did not get to meet before they passed away. I was actually names after one of them, my grandfather Eli. In addition, I feel that I have a lot in common with him: He was a very talented man and a painter. We still have his oil paintings in beautiful, large frames. I think that my ability to draw was inherited from my grandfather Eli. So, I would like to sit at the large dining table with all my family members and make a good l’chaim together!
When did you begin participating in JRCC programs?
Two years ago, during my student summer vacation, I had the opportunity to work at the JRCC office. That's when I learned more about this wonderful organization, its many programs, the desire of the rabbis and staff to help the Jews in all their needs.
Do you like the program JRCC? Is important for you to participate in them?
Yes , I love the programs of the JRCC. I was fortunate to start my career as graphic designer in one of the most popular Jewish magazines, Exodus. And, despite the fact that my family is not observant, my closeness to the JRCC allowed me to learn a lot about our history and traditions, as well as to begin to participate in Jewish programs. We can say that thanks to JRCC my life was filled with Jewish light.
What are your future plans?
I strive to improve my professional skills. Through working at Exodus I gain more and more diverse skills, learning new things all the time. I want to be a great designer who truly contributes to her community and the Jewish world.
