July 2009 News
The JRCC is pleased to announce the official opening of a new branch, the JRCC of South Richmond Hill. Rabbi Avrohom and Mrs. Sarah Zaltzman are already hard at work making plans for the opening of the new centre, which will serve the estimated 650 Jewish Russian families living in the Carville Road area. The new branch will launch with a Community Barbecue on Sunday, August 23. See ad on page 14 for details.
High Holiday services will take place – as they did last year – at CHAT’s Kimel Centre, located at the Lebobic Jewish Campus at Bathurst and Weldrick. In the near future, the JRCC of South Richmond Hill will make its home at 555 Carville Road, between Bathurst and Yonge. For High Holiday tickets or more information about this new centre, call 416.222.7105 x221 or email Rabbi Zaltzman directly at [email protected] or visit www.jrcc.org/SrichmondHill. High Holiday tickets will also be available at the barbecue on August 23.
The JRCC Yonge & Clark community gathered for a Sunday
evening barbecue at the home of Rabbi Mendel and Chanie Zaltzman. The food was hot, but it was the friendly atmosphere that provided the true warmth, and the burgeoning community continues to grow and introduce new activities and initiatives. Find out more about our upcoming programs and be part of the open and friendly atmosphere at the Yonge & Clark branch. Dozens of people took a fascinating multimedia tour of the Holy Temple with Rabbi Levi Jacobson. The four-part course, which ran weekly from July 9 to 30, featured a well-researched and informative presentation that included a slideshow with illustrations of Temple, as well as photos of ruins and recent archeological discoveries. Rabbi Jacobson also authored course on the subject, titled Heaven on Earth, which was published by the Jewish Learning Institute in New York, and presented at dozens of Chabad centres around the world – including the JRCC of Thornhill Woods, where Rabbi Chaim Hildeshaim guided participants through a two-part multimedia tour.
The JRCC and all its branches prescribe to a policy of welcoming and accepting every person who comes through our doors. At the same time, there is considerable expense involved in running the day-to-day operations of the various programs and services we offer. Please consider a JRCC Membership to help offset the costs of your local branch. Your Membership is fully tax-deductible, and includes High Holiday tickets. Please call the office at 416.222.7105 x221 or visit www.jrcc.org/highholidays.
