NEW TORAH CLASS
A new weekly class was launched at JRCC Willowdale and JRCC South of Thornhill exploring the daily practices of Jewish life through a book called Kitzur Shulchn Aruch, a summary version of the Code of Jewish Law. The class expands on knowledge of customary rituals and conduct according to the Torah, encompassing many of the Torah’s mitzvahs and practical wisdom to enhance our day-to-day lives. The classes are open to all men and women every Sunday morning following morning services at 9:00am. No registration needed. For more classes visit JRCC.org/Classes.
ROCKFORD WHITE PARTY
In celebration of Tu B’Av, a somewhat mysterious day that our sages proclaimed as one of the happiest days of the year, the Chabad Young Professionals club at JRCC Rockford hosted a “White Party” for singles. Participants enjoyed a festive evening in the open air dressed in their finest white summer outfits. They enjoyed music by Edi Shimonov and delicious food from Kapara by Keechen Pappi, as they celebrated with other young Jewish adults, many of which were seeking their soulmates on this auspicious Jewish festival of love.
20 AV FARBRENGEN
On Sunday, August 7 the JRCC West Thornhill hosted its annual farbrengen gathering in honor of the 20th of Av, the yahrzeit of the Rebbe’s father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson. The Rebbe’s father fought and suffered for his uncompromising and fearless activism to help keep Judaism alive in the former Soviet Union. It was fitting time to honor his legacy and its place in our lives, and also to celebrate the birthday of Rabbi Levi Jacobson, Director of JRCC West Thornhill, who inherited the name of the Rebbe’s father.
SENIORS & FAMILY NIGHT OUT
This past month the JRCC East Thornhill hosted an entertaining evening of music for seniors and their families. Featuring accordionist Arkadi Balanovky and guitar player Isaac Muzikansky performing Yiddish and nostalgic music, it was an opportunity for seniors to experience a fun and engaging social outing with their friends, together with their children and grand children.
SECURITY TRAINING
The JRCC Facilities Managers participated in a four-week series of security workshops. The workshop was designed to train senior staff in preparing, detecting and responding to different emergency scenarios that can suddenly become reality without warning. The training was provided by an Israeli Protection agent, head of Special Operations at Valguard Security. The precautions, countermeasures and response protocols that were learned during those workshops will make our community safer, and have the potential to save lives.
