Where is your family from, and how long have you live in Ontario?
We came from Odessa. We have lived in Ontario since 1990, and in the Thornhill area since 2000.
Why did you choose to live in Thornhill?
Because Thornhill is an area with a very active Jewish life. There are many synagogues, many Jewish families live here, including many of our friends, as well as Jewish schools and our children’s friends. The only disadvantage of this area is its high cost.
What do you do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?
My spare time practically speaking is very rare. Thank G‑d, I keep myself busy. I try to go to the gym to do weight training. One of my favorite pastime (aside from learning and spending time with my family) is winemaking. I've been doing dry grape wine, which my family and my friends enjoy drinking during the Passover Seder. When the opportunity presents itself, I love to meet with friends, and to celebrate joyous occasions in the community.
If you were given the opportunity to meet anyone, alive or dead, who would you choose, and why?
I would like to sit with my great-great-grandfather, whose name was Moshe ben Amram.
You mean Moses?
Yes, that's right. I have a lot of questions, and there is no one better suited to answer them. He communicated with the Creator, as the Torah says, face to face.
When did you begin participating in JRCC programs?
We were first introduced to the JRCC around 1992-1993, plunged headlong shortly after that, and have been very active since 1996.
Do you like the program JRCC? Is important for you to participate in them?
The answer is simple: Yes! I believe that for a Jew it is important to participate in community life, because it connects us to past generations, to the way our grandparents lived, and it is a healthy lifestyle for the entire family.
What are your future plans?
My greatest ambition is to raise my children in the spirit of Judaism. My wife and I want to have always had the blessing of the Almighty, and I wish that my family, my friends and everyone around should be happy and have no more sorrows.
