PURIM IN THE WILD WEST
On Sunday, March 24, over 500 people joined the JRCC’s annual Grand Purim Banquet. This year’s event took on the theme of “Purim in the Wild West.” The cuisine, decor and costumes all took on a Western frontier theme, which gave an added air of excitement that fit well with the out-of-thebox nature of the Purim holiday. Following the traditional Megillah reading, the evening featured a three-course festive dinner, open bar, entertainment, a DJ, and more. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community and our heritage together, especially during these challenging times for the Jewish people. It was a meaningful and joyous evening of delightful cuisine, fine spirits, entertainment, and a general jovial atmosphere befitting the Purim festival and a celebration of community unity
COMMUNITY PURIM EVENTS
On Saturday night, March 23, and Sunday morning, March 24, over 1,500 people participated in simultaneous community Purim parties at 8 JRCC Branches and other location in the GTA. Each of the parties included a Megillah reading, music, refreshments and prizes, and children (and many adults) dressed in costumes. All of the parties were warm and lively community events that focused on the children, and some included special entertainment. In addition, the week leading up Purim, Hamantash bakes took place at several of our branches, see pictures on page 15.
SENIORS NIGHT OUT
On Thursday, March 7, dozens of seniors enjoyed a night out together with their family members. Hosted at the JRCC East Thornhill, the evening featured Yiddish and nostalgic Jewish music performed by Roman Kekhman on clarinet, Tatiana Kekhman on piano, and Slava Chakhnevich on trumpet and vocals. The seniors and their families enjoyed the unique entertainment, light refreshments, and a quality community and family atmosphere
