A BIRTHDAY FARBRENGEN

Last month, Rabbi Yoseph Y. Zaltzman, senior rabbi and founder of the JRCC, celebrated his birthday with a special farbrengen gathering at the JRCC East Thornhill. Congratulations to Rabbi Zaltzman, who, together with his wife Chiena, has dedicated his life to our community, on all the amazing work done over the last forty years, and wishing you much continued success. A birthday is not just a day to celebrate. It is a day to reflect and make positive resolutions, and encourage ones’ friends and
family to do the same. It’s like a personal Rosh Hashana. In addition to the words of inspiration, song, refreshments and l’chaims, participants also offered a special gift: A positive resolution connected to Jewish life. Dozens of people obliged the rabbi by committing themselves to various acts of goodness, including to light Shabbat candles, done tefillin, observe Shabbat, and speaking more thoughtfully. CHALLAH BAKE FOR KIDS

Mothers, grandmothers and children were invited for. a special challah baking event at the JRCC West Thornhill. Dozens of participants enjoyed quality time together on a Sunday morning, with a meaningful activity and hands on workshop – a celebration of mothers and children. In addition to the tasty, fresh-baked challahs, each child also walked away with a special gift – and, most importantly, a warm, loving feeling in the
hearts.

TAMBOURINES OF FAITH

The JRCC East Thornhill hosted a special women’s night out called
“Tambourines of Faith,” exploring the life, persona and inspiration of the great leader and prophetess Miriam, the sister of Moses. Her strength was born out of the bitterness of the Egyptian exile, and defined her greatness. Together with the inspiring message, participants prepared their own tambourines, just as the Israelite women did at the time of the Exodus, a way to rekindle the unique feminine power needed in preparation for the imminent redemption.

BE AWARE! CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES!

For the past few weeks, this announcement has been left in the homes of Russian-speaking Jews. This is not a Jewish organization! These are Christian missionaries! Do not succumb to seemingly attractive promises! Their goal is to detach Jews from Judaism! If we went through all the ideological traps in the Soviet Union, why would we now succumb to insidious persuasions and false assurances and lose our true treasure - our Jewish soul, which hundreds of generations of our ancestors passed down to each other as a precious legacy?! Be vigilant! Christian missionaries are trying to ensnare Jews in their nets! Stay away from them!
