1. Commitment to Accessibility
The Jewish Russian Community Centre of Ontario (JRCC) is committed working towards full compliance with current standards of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) Policy under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA). Inclusivity is one of JRCC’s core values. The JRCC works hard to treat all people in a way that respects their dignity and independence and remove barriers to accessibility.
As part of the JRCC’s commitment to AODA, JRCC has developed a multi-year accessibility plan which outlines JRCC’s strategy to prevent and remove accessibility barriers and meet its requirements under the AODA.
2. Accessibility Policies and Plans
JRCC is committed to developing policies outlining what is currently being done and what we plan to do to meet the requirements of the regulation by January 2023. Our accessibility policies will be documented and made publicly available.
3. Training
JRCC is committed to training employees and volunteers to abide by the IASR Policy and the Human Rights Code (as it relates to disabilities). All current and future JRCC employees receive training on the IASR Policy during their worker orientation.
To ensure all staff have received the training needed to meet current standards and regulations, JRCC will:
- Provide training materials in an accessible format that accommodates employees and volunteers’ needs
- Ensure new employees and volunteers complete training during their worker orientation or within 30 days of starting their position at JRCC.
- Track the names of employees and volunteers that have completed training and the dates of completion in a database.
4. Information and Communications
JRCC is committed to comply with the Information and Communications Standard and make information and communication accessible for all clients, employees, and volunteers of the JRCC. We will consult with people with disabilities to ensure their information and communication needs are met.
JRCC will complete the following plans to ensure compliance with the Information and Communications Standard:
- Provide alternate formats for communication to make our services accessible (e.g., phone, mail, in-person) and that the public is made aware of these potential communication methods (e.g., information available on our website).
- Design our website to be accessible to people with various needs and to conform to the International Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 level AA.
5. Employment
JRCC intends to comply with the Employment Standard and ensure we cultivate an inclusive organizational culture where every person is treated with dignity and respect. JRCC’s policies and practices will be evaluated over time to identify and remove barriers to accessibility.
5.1 Recruitment
JRCC will ensure our recruitment and evaluation processes are fair and accessible. All employees involved in the recruitment process are required to complete training on AODA. Accommodations for job applicants will also be available upon request.
5.2 Individual Accommodation Plans
Accommodation plans will be created by JRCC for employees with disabilities who require them. When developing accommodation plans, JRCC will work with individual employees to meet their specific needs.
5.3 Workplace Emergency Response Information
JRCC will provide individualized workplace emergency response plans for any employee or volunteer who made a request. We will work with the employees and volunteer to identify their needs and develop a personalized plan for them.
5.4 Return to Work
JRCC will develop a process that supports employees who have been absent from work due to a disability and may require disability-related accommodations when they return to work. This process will differ across employees with different needs and will be outlined in their individual accommodation plan.
