Bereavement Package

  • JRCC Bereavement Package

  • Dear friend, if you are reading this because you are experiencing the loss of a loved one, we wish to extend you and your family our deepest condolences. On behalf of the entire team of JRCC Rabbis, we share in your suffering. We are here for you, whatever you may need.

No one knows exactly what lies on the other side of this lifetime. Jewish sources from the prophets and the mystics do offer some clues. Death is not the end of life. It is a transition to a different kind of life, the pure spiritual life of the soul. The rituals, practices and customs are different stages in the process of making this transition, as the soul passes from stage to stage, higher and higher. As such, it is important to adhere to the guidelines established by the Torah and our Sages, which our people have been following for centuries.

The JRCC is ready to assist you in all your questions as well as we want to prepare you for the time of Shiva and bring you a special basket-gift, which will provide you with all the guidance needed for this special time, as well as a present that will help you preserve the memory of your loved one: a complimentary portrait using a photo of your choice, professionally printed
    on high-quality canvas.

    1. Seven-Day Memorial Candle – It is a longstanding Jewish tradition to light a memorial candle that burns throughout the seven days of Shiva, serving as a symbol of the soul's enduring light and as a source of comfort during the mourning period.

    2. Farbrengen Wine – Wine has long been associated with Jewish tradition, remembrance, and togetherness. It may be used during a family gathering or farbrengen, providing an opportunity for loved ones to share memories, offer encouragement, and support one another.

    3. Kiddush Cup, Saucer & Bottle Opener – The Kiddush cup may be used for Shabbos and holiday Kiddush, offering an opportunity to maintain meaningful Jewish traditions and find comfort in the familiar rhythms of Jewish life. A bottle opener is also included for added convenience.

    4. Living Kaddish (English & Russian) – This guide provides the Mourner's Kaddish with English and Russian translations and transliterations, making it easier to participate in this meaningful prayer and honor the memory of a loved one.

    5. Seven Conversations with Jerry – This thoughtful book offers comfort, perspective, and inspiration while reflecting on life's deepest questions, faith, loss, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

    6. The Mourner's Meal Guide – This resource explains the tradition and significance of the Seudat Havra'ah (the Meal of Consolation), helping family and friends understand this meaningful Jewish custom observed at the beginning of the mourning period.

    7. Bereavement Guide – This practical guide walks families through the customs and traditions observed during Shiva, Shloshim, and beyond, providing clear guidance and support during a difficult time.

    8. Snacks – A selection of nuts and granola bars is included to provide simple nourishment and convenience during a time when preparing meals may be difficult, ensuring that family members have something readily available throughout the Shiva period.

May we merit to experience together the ultimate condolence with the coming of Moshiach, when we will be reunited with our loved ones, speedily in our days.
