Dozens Enjoy Virtual Temple Tours
Dozens of people took a fascinating multimedia tour of the Holy Temple with Rabbi Levi Jacobson. The four-part course, which ran weekly from July 17 to August 9, featured a well-researched and informative presentation that included a slideshow with illustrations of Temple, as well as photos of ruins and recent archeological discoveries. Rabbi Jacobson also authored course on the subject, titled Heaven on Earth, which was published by the Jewish Learning Institute in New York, and presented at dozens of Chabad centres around the world – including the JRCC of Thornhill Woods, where Rabbi Chaim Hildeshaim guided participants through a two-part multimedia tour.
Challah Braiding & Kotel Art
It was both a celebration and a mourning of our history at the JRCC Yonge & Clark. During the “three weeks,” when we mourn the destruction of the Temple, children gathered to create original artistic masterpieces of the remaining retaining wall of the Temple – known as the Kotel or the Western Wall. About two dozen children joined the program, which also featured Challah braiding and discussion about the significance of Jerusalem and the Temple.
Summer Camp
Now in its second year, the JRCC’s Summer Adventure Camp provided 28 boys ages 11 to 15 with a six-day adventure experience in a beautiful, expansive, natural lakefront setting in northern Ontario. The campers made friends and enjoyed six days packed with excitement – included a wide variety of recreational activities and amusement trips throughout the week. From challenging outdoor activities like Mountain biking and tree-top roping, to skill building activities like archery, as well as memorable trips to Canada's Wonderland and paintball, the campers got a dose of summer fun that will last a lifetime - or at least until next year's summer camp.
How did the campers enjoy the experience? Here’s what they had to say: “Best camp ever!!! :)”; “Nothing like I've seen before.”; "It was very fun, I made friends, great counselors"; “I really enjoyed this camp because I learned a lot of thing about Judaism.”
